Quick Moving Tips

Disconnecting Appliances

Sadly, relocating to a new place also means cleaning your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the various appliances that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for the disconnection of your major appliances. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before beginning to move.

Thinking About New State Taxes

One of the most important things to be on top of if you are moving to a different state is the different ways in which revenue is received by the local government. Or in other words, taxes. Before you start moving, make sure to educate yourself about all potential adjustments on your property and income taxes. Don't allow your new state's sales tax surprise you as well.

Inform Others of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are a few companies, people, and local offices you should give notice to about your address change other than your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where basically, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a short amount of time, so it's best that you notify everyone who needs to know as soon as possible. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your company that provides the utilities.
