Quick Moving Tips

Leaving Behind Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new area also means tidying up your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the different appliances that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, taking the water out of your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for the disconnection of your major appliances. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your washing machine, stove, drier and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before starting to move.

Moving Your Firearms

Since the "Brady Bill" legislation in the mid 90's, carriers under contract are allowed to transport weapons for their clients. Naturally, the service obligates potential clients to follow explicit rules. Firearms must be emptied of all ammunition and the particulars of each gun (make, model, and serial number) has to be included in the inventory. Also, movers will not transport your ammunition for you. The client is responsible for that. It's always a smart idea to check with local state law on the policies and restrictions concerning firearm safety.

Transporting Your Tools

If you own belongings that use gasoline or oil like your landscaping tools or emergency power generators, be sure to drain them before the moving company pack the items. This is a vital safety precaution that you need to consider. Hand tools are simply managed; you can just leave those items in your tool box. Just make sure to fill up the empty spaces with filling material such as Styrofoam to stop your tools from moving during the move.
