Quick Moving Tips

Inform Others of Your Address Change

Prior to your move, there are a few people, offices, and businesses you should notify about your address change outside your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a short amount of time, so it's a good idea that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as possible. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your utility provider.

Keep In Mind Any Additional Packing Tape

Just because you've finished loading your boxes does not mean you won't require spare packing tape. It isn't uncommon for relocation experts to ask you to tape over one of your boxes because it wasn't properly packed. These are genuine signs of a moving company that cares about your stuff. Something to remember: just in case you don't have any additional packing tape left over on the day you move, your relocation company may charge more for a roll than a you may think. It's like purchasing an instant camera at an amusement park. Make sure to contact them about any extra fees beforehand.

Moving Your Weapons

Since the inception of the "Brady Bill" in 1994, contract carriers are permitted to move weapons for their clients. Naturally, the service obligates potential customers to follow detailed guidelines. Firearms must be emptied of all ammunition and the details of every firearm (make, model, and serial number) has to be incorporated into the inventory. Furthermore, movers will not ship your ammunition for you. The client is responsible for that. It's always a wise plan to be savvy with local state law on the guidelines and regulations regarding weapon security.
