Quick Moving Tips

Leaving Behind Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new area also means tidying up your old one. It's a good idea to make a list of all of the various appliances that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and removing tubes from the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're responsible for the disconnection of your major appliances. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have prepared for loading before beginning to move.

Back up Your Files

It's recommended that you save and back up the files and folders on your home or work computer prior to your move, specifically if you use either for your job. Keep in mind, severe temperatures can hurt your data so make sure to pack and make sure they are secured in a cool place. It is recommended that you move these items on your own instead of leaving them to the movers.

Catching Up On New State Taxes

One of the main things to be aware of if you're moving to another state is the different methods in which revenue is collected by the local government. Or in other words, taxes. Before you move, make sure to get informed about any potential changes on your property and income taxes. Do not allow the new state's sales tax surprise you as well.
