Quick Moving Tips

Notify Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are a few companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change other than your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a short amount of time, so it's best that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your utility provider.

Inform Your Movers

Prior to your moving companies arrival, be sure to update them of everything that may get in the way of their movement, such as small entryways. You might also want to look into where they can park. If your neighborhood has narrow streets, let your neighbors know in advance what day and approximate time the moving company will arrive therefore you can all create space for the trailer.

Packing Appliances

Unfortunately, moving to a new home also means tidying up your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the different items that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're responsible for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before starting to move.
