Quick Moving Tips

Dealing With New State Taxes

One of the most important things to be on top of if you're moving to another state is the different methods in which revenue is received by the local government. Or in other words, taxes. Before you move, be sure to get informed about any likely adjustments on your property and income taxes. Do not let your new state's sales tax catch you off guard as well.

Transporting Your Tools

If you own belongings that run on gasoline or oil like your mechanical machines or home improvement tools, keep in mind to drain them prior to having the moving company pack them. This is a critical safety precaution that you should look into. Hand tools need little management; you can just leave them in your tool box. Just make sure to load up the empty spaces with filling material such as bubble wrap to keep your tools from moving during the move.

Packing Appliances

Sadly, relocating to a new home also means cleaning your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the various appliances that need your attention, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, taking the water out of your dishwasher, and removing tubes from the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for making sure your major appliances are turned off. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your stove, washer, fridge, and any other appliance you may have prepared for loading before moving day.
