Unfortunately, moving to a new home also means cleaning your old one. It's smart to make a list of all of the different items that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Be aware that you're responsible for making sure your major appliances are turned off. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your stove, washer, fridge, and any other appliance you may have prepared for loading before starting to move.

Loading Your Tools

If you own items that use gasoline or oil like your power tools or lawn mower, be sure to drain them prior to having the movers pack them. This is a critical safety precaution that you should take into account. Hand tools require little management; you can just leave them in your tool box. Just remember to load the empty spaces with packing material such as Styrofoam to stop your tools from moving during transportation.

Before you move, there are several companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change other than your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your previous address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a limited time, so it's best that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can.
