Quick Moving Tips

Inform Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are several companies, people, and local offices you should give notice to about your address change other than your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where essentially, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a short amount of time, so it's best that you notify everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your telephone, cable, water, and electric.

Cleaning Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new home also means cleaning your old one. It's a good idea to list out all of the different appliances that need your attention, like removing the grease from the stove and oven, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before moving day.

Inform Your Movers

Prior to your moving companies arrival, make certain to update them of anything that may hinder their movement, such as small entryways. Additionally, look into where they can park. If your areas streets are narrow, notify your neighbors in advance what day and approximate time the moving company will arrive so you can all make space for the trailer.
