Quick Moving Tips

Inform Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are several companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change outside your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a limited time, so it's a good idea that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your telephone, cable, water, and electric.

Let Your Movers Know

Prior to your movers arrival, make certain to update them of everything that may get in the way of their movement, such as a staircase. Additionally, look into where they can park. If your areas streets are narrow, let your neighbors know in advance what day and approximate time the moving company will arrive therefore you can all create space for the trailer.

Disconnecting Appliances

Sadly, moving to a new home also means tidying up your old one. It's a good idea to make a list of all of the various items that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Be aware that you're responsible for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before beginning to move.
