Quick Moving Tips
Leaving Behind Appliances
Sadly, relocating to a new home also means cleaning your old one. It's best to list out all of the different appliances that need your consideration, like removing the grease from the stove and oven, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for making sure your major appliances are turned off. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your stove, washer, fridge, and any other appliance you may have prepared for loading before moving day.
Notify Businesses of Your Address Change
Prior to your move, there are certain companies, people, and local offices you should notify about your address change other than your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where basically, any mail that is sent to your previous address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a limited time, so it's a good idea that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your company that provides the utilities.
Back up Your Files
It's recommended that you save and back up the data on your personal computers or PDAs ahead of your move, specially if you use any for work. Bear in mind, severe temperatures can harm your data so be sure to pack and make sure they are secured in a cool place. It's a smart idea that you transport these items yourself instead of leaving them to the moving company.
