Quick Moving Tips

Packing Appliances

Unfortunately, moving to a new home also means tidying up your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the different items that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're responsible for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before starting to move.

Pack with Newspaper

If your are going to use newspaper to pack and cover your things, be certain it is something that will not be messed up by ink smudges. You should take steps to make sure that your items won't get discolored by wrapping your stuff separately with a different wrap before padding the newspaper in.

Notify Businesses of Your Address Change

Prior to your move, there are certain companies, people, and local offices you should give notice to about your address change other than your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where essentially, any mail that is sent to your old address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a short amount of time, so it's a good idea that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your company that provides the utilities.
