Quick Moving Tips

Notify Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are a few companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change other than your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where essentially, any mail that is sent to your previous address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a limited time, so it's a good idea that you notify everyone who needs to know as soon as possible. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your telephone, cable, water, and electric.

Finding Moving Supplies

You can repeatedly find commercial moving supplies at any moving company that explicitly offers commercial relocation. However, just for the sake of ease, you should phone ahead of time to find out if they have the commercial moving supplies you are looking for. So that you don't have to visit various locations, only to find that they don't stock the supplies you need. If you have problems finding a mover that offers commercial relocation, consider using a moving broker to find one.

Moving Your Firearms

Since the inception of the "Brady Bill" in the mid 90's, carriers under contract are permitted to move guns for their clients. Unsurprisingly, the service requires prospective clients to follow specific guidelines. Guns must be emptied of all ammunition and the particulars of every firearm (make, model, and serial number) must be incorporated into the inventory. Also, relocation experts will not ship your ammo for you. That is the responsibility of the owner. It's always a good plan to get familiar with local state legislation on the guidelines and regulations regarding gun safety.
