Quick Moving Tips

Notify Others of Your Address Change

Prior to your move, there are a few people, offices, and businesses you should notify about your address change outside your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where basically, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a short amount of time, so it's a good idea that you notify everyone who needs to know as soon as possible. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your company that provides the utilities.

Catching Up On New State Taxes

One of the major things to be aware of if you're relocating to a different state is the different methods in which money is received by the state government. Or in other words, taxes. Before you move, make sure to educate yourself about all potential changes on your property and income taxes. Don't allow your new state's sales tax catch you off guard as well.

Remember The Extra Packing Tape

Just because you have finished loading your things doesn't mean you won't need additional packing tape. It's not rare for movers to ask you to tape over one of your boxes because it wasn't properly packed. These are genuine signs of a relocation company that cares about your possessions. Something to remember: just in case you do not have any additional packing tape left over on moving day, your relocation company might charge extra for a pack than a convenience store. It's like buying an instant camera at a national park. Be sure to ask your movers about all additional fees before you move.
