Quick Moving Tips

Moving Your Firearms

From the inception of the "Brady Bill" in 1994, contract carriers are allowed to ship firearms for their customers. Unsurprisingly, this service requires prospective customers to follow detailed rules. Firearms must be emptied of all ammunition and the particulars of every firearm (make, model, and serial number) has to be incorporated into the inventory. Furthermore, carriers will not transport your ammo for you. The owner is held accountable for that. It's always a good plan to check with local state legislation on the rules and limitations in relation to weapon security.

Keep In Mind The Extra Packing Tape

Just because you've finished packing your items doesn't mean you will not require additional packing tape. It isn't unusual for relocation experts to ask you to tape over one of your boxes because it wasn't properly packed. These are genuine signs of a mover that cares about your stuff. A word of caution: in case you don't have any additional packing tape left over on the day you move, your relocation company might charge more for a pack than a hardware store. It's like buying a bottle of soda at an amusement park. Be sure to ask your movers about any additional costs before you start moving.

Notify Others of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are several companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change other than your family. The most obvious is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your previous address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a limited time, so it's best that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your utility provider.
