Quick Moving Tips

Moving Your Firearms

Since the "Brady Bill" legislation in the mid 90's, carriers under contract are allowed to transport weapons for their clients. Naturally, the service obligates potential clients to follow explicit rules. Firearms must be emptied of all ammunition and the particulars of each gun (make, model, and serial number) has to be included in the inventory. Also, movers will not transport your ammunition for you. The client is responsible for that. It's always a smart idea to check with local state law on the policies and restrictions concerning firearm safety.

Keep In Mind The Extra Packing Tape

Just because you have completed packing your belongings does not mean you will not require additional packing tape. It isn't unusual for relocation experts to ask you to tape over one of your boxes because it wasn't properly packed. These are real signs of a mover that cares about your possessions. Something to remember: in case you do not have any extra packing tape left over on moving day, your moving company might charge extra for a roll than a you may think. It's like buying a bottle of soda at an amusement park. Make sure to ask your moving company about any additional costs before you move.

Leaving Behind Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new area also means tidying up your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the different appliances that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, taking the water out of your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for the disconnection of your major appliances. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your washing machine, stove, drier and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before starting to move.
