Quick Moving Tips

Transporting Your Tools

If you own items that use gasoline or oil like your landscaping tools or emergency power generators, remember to drain them before the movers pack them. This is a necessary safety precaution that you should look into. Hand tools are easily managed; you can just place those items in your tool box. Just make sure to load the empty spaces with filling material such as packing peanuts to keep your tools from shifting during transportation.

Taping Techniques

There can be different techniques of securing and taping your boxes in preparation for relocating, some are more useful than others. Some moving companies use the "H" taping method, that involves taping down the center of the box in between the flaps and then the edges, making the an "H" shape.

Disconnecting Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new place also means cleaning your old one. It's a good idea to create lists of all of the various appliances that need your attention, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and removing tubes from the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're responsible for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Your moving company won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your washing machine, stove, drier and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before moving day.
