Quick Moving Tips

Packing Appliances

Sadly, moving to a new area also means cleaning your old one. It's best to list out all of the various items that need your attention, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and removing tubes from the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for the disconnection of your major appliances. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your washing machine, stove, drier and any other appliance you may have prepared for loading before moving day.

Loading Your Tools

If you have items that use gasoline or oil like your power tools or lawn mower, remember to drain them before the movers load them. This is a fundamental safety measure that you should look into. Hand tools are easily managed; you can just leave them in your tool box. Just make sure to load up the empty spaces with packing material such as paper to protect your tools from shifting during the move.

Inform Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are certain people, offices, and businesses you should notify about your address change other than your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only lasts for a short amount of time, so it's best that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in touch with include: your company that provides the utilities.
