Thinking About New State Taxes

One of the major criteria to be aware of if you are moving to a different state is the different ways in which money is collected by the state government. Or in other words, taxes. Before you start moving, be certain to get informed about all potential adjustments on your property and income taxes. Don't allow your new state's sales tax catch you off guard as well.

Loading Your Tools

If you own items that run on gasoline or oil like your mechanical machines or home improvement tools, be sure to drain them prior to having the movers pack the items. This is an important safety measure that you need to consider. Hand tools are easily managed; you can just leave those items in your tool box. Just be sure to load up the empty spaces with packing material such as Styrofoam to protect your tools from moving during the move.

Cleaning Appliances

Unfortunately, relocating to a new home also means cleaning your old one. It's a good idea to list out all of the different appliances that need your attention, like removing the grease from the stove and oven, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before moving day.
