Quick Moving Tips

Leaving Behind Appliances

Sadly, moving to a new home also means tidying up your old one. It's best to make a list of all of the different appliances that need your attention, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, taking the water out of your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Be aware that you're accountable for making sure your major appliances are disconnected. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your stove, washer, fridge, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before starting to move.

Inform Businesses of Your Address Change

Prior to your move, there are a few companies, people, and local offices you should notify about your address change outside your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where basically, any mail that is sent to your old address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a short amount of time, so it's a good idea that you notify everyone who needs to know as soon as possible. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your utility provider.

Notify Your Movers

Before your mover gets to your house, make sure to notify them of anything that may obstruct their progress, such as a staircase. Additionally, look into where they can park. If your areas streets are narrow, let your neighbors know in advance what day and approximate time the movers will arrive therefore you can all make space for the trailer.
