Quick Moving Tips

Notify Businesses of Your Address Change

Before you move, there are a few companies, people, and local offices you should let know about your address change other than your family. The most evident is the post office. Post offices often offer a forwarding service for your mail where for all intents and purposes, any mail that is sent to your original address will be forwarded to your new one. However, the forwarding address only runs for a short amount of time, so it's best that you inform everyone who needs to know as soon as you can. Other companies you should get in contact with include: your utility provider.

Wrapping with Newspaper

If your are going to use newspaper to pack and cover your belongings, make sure it's something that won't get messed up by ink stains. You can take a certain approach to ensure that your items will not get tainted by packing your belongings separately with a different wrap before padding the newspaper in.

Disconnecting Appliances

Sadly, relocating to a new place also means cleaning your old one. It's best to create lists of all of the various appliances that need your consideration, like removing mildew and stains on appliances around the house, draining your dishwasher, and disconnecting the washing machine. Keep in mind that you're accountable for the disconnection of your major appliances. Movers won't do it for you due to insurance and safety reasons, so be sure to have your fridge, dishwasher, and any other appliance you may have readied for loading before beginning to move.
